Cancer survivor, cycling legend and all round sporting hero Lance Armstrong has decided not to contest the latest claims brought against him by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency and will consequently have his seven Tour de France wins ” obliterated” and see himself banned from the sport for life.
The 40-year-old cyclist who retired from the sport last year released a statement on his website in which he proclaimed “Enough is enough. For me, that time is now.” The Texas born star has always denied any allegations of drug-use and has been fighting off claims from the USADA following allegations in 2009 that he used performance-enhancing drugs to improve his endurance in the sport. He has stated before he would “jump at the chance” to prove his innocence before ultimately refusing “to participate in a process that is so one-sided and unfair.”
Armstrong’s attorney released a statement in which revealed the sporting hero had “passed every drug test ever administered to him in his career – a total of 500 to 600 tests” and that this was “more drug tests than any athlete in history.”
The record breaking Tour winner says he will now concentrate on his charity “Livestrong” set up following his own battle with testicular cancer. He stated:
“I will no longer address this issue, regardless of the circumstances. I will commit myself to the work I began before ever winning a single Tour de France title: serving people and families affected by cancer, especially those in underserved communities. This October, my Foundation will celebrate 15 years of service to cancer survivors and the milestone of raising nearly $500 million.”
Meanwhile the International Cycling Union (UCI) – the Cycling world’s governing body – has said they will await a report from the USADA before commenting on Armstrong’s case.
Tom Daley, Chris Mears and Sarah Barrow have joined the exclusive group of 2012 Olympic athletes to have the Olympic symbol tattooed on their bodies. The trio posted the picture on Twitter and Facebook with Daley tweeting “I finally have my Olympic tattoo…I will post a pic later!!!” with Barrow adding “So I got an Olympic tattoo :D”
Their new ink means they follow in the footsteps of several athletes who have undergone the pain to commemorate the significance of their achievements in the global event.
Illya Kvasha of Ukraine sports the Olympic rings on her shoulder with American swimming gold-medalist Ryan Lochte displaying the tattoo on his arm à la Tom Daley and fellow Team USA swimmer Stephanie Rice with “Beijing 2008/London 2012” tattooed underneath her own version. Her parents are probably hoping she doesn’t make it to Rio 2016…
My favourite tattoo of all? Sarah Barrow. Right on the ribs, you go Glen Coco… Just remember kids, think before you ink!!
So yeah… the Olympics are great. Woooooooo everyone is so good at sport. Yay!!! No.
If you are a girl then over the past few weeks you’ve probably watched the events, read the tweets and pretended that you have any clue really as to whats been going on in the various events. You probably got a couple of days in, hung around for a bit of b-ball, soccer, mainly sports that you can identify with having been forced to play in the early years of your life when there was no make-up to sweat off or nail polish to chip. However, if you DO happen to be one of these girls and are finding these Olympics quite the bore then fear not!! Luckily for you there is a bright side to this never ending story of people exercising more in 3 minutes then you have ever done in your life. Keep Calm, Diving is Here. BUT, we don’t really care about the diving but more so the diverrrs. So ladies, put 50 Shades of Grey back on that shelf and let me introduce you to your eye-candy for the coming week…
1. Tom Daley
I actually feel quite the creep writing this due to the fact that I was convinced he was 16. BUT according to Wikipedia Tom Daley is 18 and legal and therefore we can freely talk about his amazing stomach without feeling like a pedophile. The lad made his first Olympic appearance in Beijing four years ago and has burst back onto the Olympic scene this year with a brand new six-pack in his cooler. NOM. Unfortunately he does have a girlfriend but hey, us girls can dream…
(Although his diving partner Peter Waterfield doesn’t make our top 3, we can just stare at their amazing six-packs here instead…)
2. Chris Mears
Yet another Team GB Diver but we like to keep them close to home so it’s acceptable. 19-year-old Chris started diving when his Mum sent him to lessons due to the fact he couldn’t stop jumping around the house when he was younger…how cute!! Seriously challenges Tom Daley in the looks department and is just so, so beautiful. Enough said.
3. David Boudia
I dunno, maybe it’s just me, but I think this guy is really hot. David Boudia is a team USA diver. The 23-year-old and his diving partner Nick McCrory took home bronze in the synchronised diving at this years Olympics (that’s why I have an idea he exists.)
So there we have it, another Olympic day of being shallow has passed. If Fifty Shades isn’t getting you buzzed then try watching these three. Or maybe you could just pause the T.V when they appear. BBC promises it will leave you feeling soaking wet… because you’re watching the diving in HD obviously…
